Castle Hill:

Drive to the “Castle Hill” top overlooking the old town and the harbour (see photo below ) and be where the Ancient Greeks settled 2300 years ago and founded their ancient Greek city which they named “Nikaïa” (victory in Greek).

Over the 23 centuries, Nikaïa became Nizza when Nice was Italian. Then Nizza became Nice when Nice became French a century and a half ago.

From this extraordinary viewpoint, enjoy the majestic beauty of the “Bay of Angels”.

Russian Church:

This magnificent cathedral is the biggest Russian orthodox church outside Russia.

It is now the property of Russia and is open for services only.

But the outside is open to the public.

Cimiez:

Be where the Ancient Romans founded their City  2 centuries after the Greeks.

They named it “Cemenelum” and it was an administrative and military stronghold of their huge empire.

Watch a part of their Roman city then walk to a nearby magic rose garden belonging to a Franciscan monastery.

The Franciscan church nearby (see photo above) dates back to 1606 and can be visited.

The world famous Matisse museum is also next to the garden and can be visited as well (entrance free).

Flower Market:

Located in the heart of the old town, this market is also for fresh produce, fruits, vegetables, cheese etc.

It is definitely the liveliest place of Nice, the best place to watch local people and taste exquisite local produce. Market mornings only.
